Dear Danny and Hina

Many best wishes for the New Year and thank you for your email message and card. I have just realised that I have not sent you on a photo with me wearing the jacket - photo attached taken with my wife in Las Vegas. I am thinking of ordering another jacket from you; same style but in a different colour (possibly dark blue and will let you know). I don't know what happened to Richard Craig when he went to Singapore possibly he did not have enough time to visit you.

Kind regards

Danny & Margaret Stevenson

Hello Dinesh
I have finally got around to sending you this email. It was in December/ January that we were in Singapore and I bought a suit/trousers/shirt & ties from you. I didn’t get the chance to personally thank you, but I am very pleased with the finished product and it is now my ‘best’ suit.

Please pass on my thanks to your colleagues and if we are in Singapore again I will pop by and you can sell me another suit!

Hi Dinesh,
I have had a suit made up by you and I really like it. I would like to get some shirts made up, and would also like a jacket made up, but considering I’m in London, I would like to get a heavier fabric, maybe wool cotton mix?. Could you price these items:

3 shirts as previously ordered in black, charcoal and another which is black with thin red vertical stripes.

Jacket in dark fabric with design as before, but maybe a bit shorter in length (9cm shorter)

Could you email examples of fabric?

Thank you for your message. In fact I had meant to email you to confirm that our clothes had arrived and that we are very happy with them all.

I am quite interested in getting two more pairs of trousers (similar to those you made before) – one in a similar colour, the other in a lighter grey to contrast more with the jacket. Please could you advise how much these would cost. How can I view the colours?

I shall be passing through Singapore airport on October 18th so perhaps could have them delivered there … or mailed to the UK

Hello Mr Dinesh,

I doubt whether you remember me, if you can recall I’m Remy by name I came to your place of work with my collegue Joseph both of us from Rwanda and then we were residing in Marina Mandarin; if you can remember we bought two suits each of us from your enterprise, and for sure we were unique as you were telling us that time; they are so nice to tell the truth, it is actually other people who do testify.

What I wanted to enquire from you is to know how much is one suit and the cost of transporting them from Singapore to Kigali-Rwanda; and in addition to that I wanted to know the best material you have as of now and from that I can know what and how much to order.

Otherwise how is Singapore? Here in Rwanda we are so fine and we are looking forward to welcoming you to Kigali, it’s a nice place to try and come and have funs!

Awaiting your positive and encouraging answer it is Remy Mudaheranwa saying have good time over there and thanks in advance.

Dinesh,

Danny David here from Texas.

What can I say, you did an excellent job on my light gray suit! Better than excellent—I absolutely love it. It’s my favorite, thank you.

Depending on what you’ve got, I am interested in a dark charcoal suit of the same material. How do you propose we proceed? I adore the fabric you picked last time. Perhaps you can send swatches for a navy suit with blue chalkstripes, wide gauge (distance between stripes), as well? Thank you, sir.

I have advised another colleague about your work, and he should be in touch separately at some point.

Handling Stains

Handling Stains on the Spot

Clothing is always in the line of fire. Stains are a fact of life. Soup or tomato sauce stains appear on a silk tie after an otherwise spectacular meal. Minor shaving accidents leave their mark on custom shirts. Lipstick emerges on your perfectly pressed white collar. With a little advance knowledge, you can learn to identify the type of stain and administer the appropriate solution.

Stains fall into two broad categories: greasy and non-greasy. Examples of greasy stains are salad dressing or butter, and cleaning fluid will usually do the trick. Non-greasy stains, like blood or orange juice, usually respond well to water and can be resolved with a quick trip to the lavatory. Sometimes stains are hybrid in nature: both greasy and non-greasy. These combinations should be addressed with a two-stage treatment involving first a cleaning fluid and then water. Your custom clothing shop is a good place to get further advice regarding stain removal.

Clothing that are dry-clean-only are a special case. Treating them with soap and water can actually make the problem worse by setting the stain. You can purchase aerosol spot removers for dry cleanable items and simply spray the affected area. Similar products are available for suede shoes, which can often regain their beauty with a simple application.
To protect your wardrobe, a really challenging stain is probably best taken to the dry cleaners. They are skilled at assessing the situation and will draw upon a vast array of cleaning products that can target specific blemishes.

Sending Out For Dry Cleaning

Virtually any garment will have cleaning instructions printed on a small label.
When building a wardrobe of custom clothing and accessories, the practical man will do well to select everyday garments that are machine washable. However, many fine garments that are essential to your wardrobe are dry-clean-only. Be aware that excessive dry cleaning may shorten the life of your valuable clothing because the harsh chemicals can damage fabric fibers.

A few words about returning home with dry cleaned clothing: You should take your clothes out of the plastic bags because these synthetic receptacles tend to hold cleaning odors and excessive heat inside. Take clothes off wire hangers (which do nothing to preserve the shape of shoulders or the smooth lines of trousers). Let your clothes air out at least overnight so that the dry cleaning chemicals can disperse.

Wardrobe Care

Proper Care of Your Wardrobe

Your wardrobe is more than a coordinated collection of fine custom made clothing. It is an investment in your career and overall enjoyment of life. You do not need to hire an investment counselor to maximize the returns from this investment. You need simply to invest a little time learning how to care for your assets.

Your clothes should not live only on your body and inside the closet. When you return home or to your hotel room, drape suit jackets and sport coats over a chair and let them air out overnight. Dresses and Pants should also enjoy a respite over the arm of a chair and never be hung on a wire hanger.

Dry cleaning is a miracle of modern times but not a solution for every stain or blemish that makes an appearance on your garments. Trust the advice of a custom clothing shop owner: Dry cleaning actually shortens the life of clothing, as it tends to weaken fibers with harmful long-term effects. Many stains can actually be addressed using proven remedies that range from water and soap to dry cleaning products. Some specifics will be detailed in this section.

Storage In your closet
Custom shirts and blouses, jackets and suit coats should be kept on padded and rounded hangers that a fine tailor provides as a matter of course. These substantial hangers are the same types used by the custom clothing shop. They are perfect for preserving the shape or shoulders and preventing unsightly creases and droopy shoulders.

Pants or slacks should be hung from the cuff or hem, or placed on hangers with a horizontal bar that allows the garment to fold over without leaving a crease.

Avoid wire hangers, as they may rust and leave stains on fabrics, or even tear garments. In Singapore, one of the world's tailoring capital, legend has it that the very sight of a cheap hanger in a custom clothing shop is sufficient to ask the user to pack his bags and pursue a different career.

Be sure your closet is clean, well ventilated and maintains a moderate temperature and humidity. Remember to give your clothes a little breathing room by leaving some space between hangers.

Tight Knit Groups
Sweaters and other knitted garments are a sensitive lot. They should be folded, as this allows them to maintain their shape (Hangers do not so understand). Fold them a little differently each time so they will not develop creases. Underwear and socks should be rolled to save space and avoid wrinkles.

Changes of Season
When a clothing is retired for the season, be sure to launder or dry clean it prior to storage. This procedure will ensure that there are no residues of food on the clothing that may attract moth larvae. The storage area should be clean, well ventilated and away from sunlight.
Canvas storage bags are ideal. Plastic bags are to be avoided, as they tend to create a sauna effect that is not exactly rejuvenating to the garment and can cause mildew.
wwwwwww
Lengthy Storage
Custom clothing should be laundered and suits and pants dry cleaned prior to long-term storage. Choose a well-ventilated storage area that maintains a moderate temperature close to 75 degrees F and a humidity of around 50%. The containers you use depend on the clothing types. Woolen clothing should go into a cedar trunk or chest that is sealed and lined with a well-laundered white sheet. Other clothing can be stored in lightweight plastic boxes that have vents and are waterproof. Ideally, an acid-free tissue paper should be placed between folded items to preserve their good looks.

Clothing Care

General Clothing Care Tips and Guidelines

for Helping Your Wardrobe Last

Taking good care of your clothes protects your wardrobe investment as well as keeps you looking great. With correct care, your garments will last for many years to come.

Invest in three key tools:
- a lint tape roller,
- a clothes brush, and
- a steamer.

After each wearing
- Empty pockets: Otherwise you may teach them to bulge or sag.
- Brush them with a Lint Roller: This removes lint, hair, surface dirt and soil and prevents them from becoming stains later on. You can also use a lint brush, but it's slightly more stressful on the fabric.
- Air them: Lay knits flat on bed for an hour or so to dissipate odors it may have absorbed, such as cigarette smoke. Woven garments should be hung from a closet door or shower rod with ample breathing room to allow any wrinkles to relax out.
- Fold knits: Knits should never be hung. Fold them and place flat with breathing room, in bureau or wardrobe.

Padded or plastic hangers are gentler than wire ones.

Avoid hanging a jacket, or any heavier garments, by the neck or on a coat rack or hook.

Never store a jacket or any garments in the protective plastic bag. Plastic bags are meant for getting your garments from the drycleaner to your home only, never for storage. Leaving garments in the plastic bags promotes light damage and mildew, and can dry out leather and suede.

Brush your clothes regularly and thoroughly. Napped fabrics, such as flannel, will perk up after a light once-over with a clothes brush, and a shot of steam will remove wrinkles quickly and effectively. Stores often use steamers to freshen clothes after they've been tried on.
Dry rain-soaked or damp garments thoroughly in a cool, well ventilated place before hanging in the closet.

Care for your clothes regularly, and unless you have a spill, you should only have to dry clean them once, at the end of the season -- a real benefit since dry cleaning is so expensive!

Exposure to air, heat and light sets stains and can make their removal impossible. Treat any stains immediately to keep them from becoming permanent. Another good reason to get items cleaned before storage.
Click here for Stain Removal tips.

Don't jam your clothes together in your closet, either. If you have a big wardrobe, rotate it seasonally, storing your out-of-season clothes in a separate closet (if you're lucky enough to have one) or in special clothing containers (example: old suitcases).

Don't Press a garment if it's stained. The heat of pressing will set the stain and likely make its removal impossible.

Don't Use untested home stain removers or club soda. They can aggravate the condition, or may create permanent damage. Take the garment to your drycleaner.

Don't Use an underarm deodorant without using a shield to protect the garment from the deodorant. Allow deodorant to dry before dressing.

Don't Wear decorative pins - especially on knit garments. If the garment has a snag, use a crochet hook to pull the loop through the underside to avoid further damage.

Don't Wear a garment that you value when using a cold-wave solution or getting a permanent. Cold-wave solutions cause fabric discoloration.

Don't Use nail polish remover to remove nail polish stains. You may damage the garment's dye, or if the fabric is an acetate type, nail polish remover can create a hole.

Don't Hang knitted garments. Hanging pulls them out of shape and causes a sagging hemline. Knits are best stored in a drawer; or folded over the padded rod of a hanger.

Choosing Colors

The Art of Choosing Colors

One of the nice things about custom made clothing is the opportunity to choose the exact colors and combinations that make you look best. You don't have to have a degree in fine art or the talent of Monet to create striking color combinations.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that color communicates. Scientific studies have shown that colors can speak loudly. Colors can also communicate at subtle levels that are beneath conscious awareness.

In the same way, your choice of colors for your custom clothing can communicate confidence and credibility and set a tone that is conducive to your success. Can an off the rack shirt compare with the rich colors and textures available to the wearer of a custom made shirt? You may get lucky once in a while, but chances are much more in your favor when you rely on the talents of a bespoke tailor like Ehkay Corner Tailors.

TAILORING YOUR COLOR SCHEME

Red is an action color. When we see red, the heart rate and blood pressure rise, we breathe faster and we tend to feel the energy of aggression. Obviously, red is not an ideal color for many business situations.

Orange is known primarily as a color that is stimulating to the appetite, but not necessarily to conversation or business transactions. However, orange can be an excellent accent color for ties and mixes well with other colors such as browns.

Yellow communicates optimism and is associated with cheerfulness. Yellow also attracts attention but is a difficult color for the eye to absorb. It should therefore be used with discretion to avoid an overpowering effect.

Green is a relaxing color that also communicates growth, health and prosperity. The walls of doctors' offices are often designed in green to encourage patience among those waiting for an appointment. The custom dress shirt can also create a peaceful aura that makes you pleasant to be around and encourages productive negotiations.

Blue is a calming color that has the opposite effects of red. Blue tends to put people in a relaxed state and inspires intellectual activity. Also associated with loyalty, blue is a very popular color for custom suits for interviews daily activities in the business arena.

Purple is generally considered a more feminine color and one that communicates opulence and luxury. Purple stands out from the accepted repertoire and should be used with care. However, it can be an excellent accent color as a subtle stripe or pattern within an overall context.

Brown is an organic color that is dominant in nature and is a staple of the gentleman's wardrobe. Brown is a good foundation color that sets the stage for a light colored shirt/blouse and more active colors in ties and accessories.

Black is a powerful color. It communicates respect, authority, reverence and professionalism. Black is actually a combination of all colors in the spectrum.

That's why black works well with almost any other color.

While the color palette has expanded dramatically in recent years, the businessman can profit from understanding some color basics. Black and navy blue are standard colors for suits and jackets. Black shoes and a black belt are required dress for business. The best choices in custom dress shirts/blouses tend to be whites and light blues, which provide a beautiful canvas for imaginative tie selections.

Why Custom Tailoring?

Great Tailor – Excellent Fit

The custom tailor is an artist in the truest sense. Using a man’s or woman’s imperfect body as inspiration, the tailor fashions a garment that captures every subtlety and caters to its owner’s individual strengths. Whether you begin with a custom Man’s Suit or a Woman’s Dress, the experience promises to be among the most rewarding you will encounter. A bespoke custom made clothing shop such as MySingaporeTailor.com™ is an excellent place to embark on your journey.

Men or Women who try custom tailoring often become lifetime advocates, simply because no off-the-rack clothing or modified stock garment can compare. Once they experience the superb fit that embraces and enhances their individuality, it’s hard to settle for run of the mill clothing.

· Fit - Custom is made to your measurements, your form, your posture. It is made expressly for you. Once a custom fit is experienced, it is impossible to countenance returning to a ready-to-wear altered garment.

· Selection – Even if you are a 40 regular, ready made selection is always limited and can never offer you the scope of fabrics that you will find from your tailor. He or she has hundreds in different weights, patterns and qualities and they are all in your size. Come to MySingaporeTailor.com™ where every fabric is in your size.

· Style – When is the last time you were able to choose whether you wanted a peak or notch label, a side, center or no vent, double-breasted, a silk dress which fits you like a glove, an office suit of your favorite design and color which can be made with a slacks as well as a skirt? Or for that matter, what about something really special, like working buttonholes, hand stitched edges and that extra cell phone pocket? All of this is possible with custom made clothing.

· Quality – The materials and trimmings as well as the workmanship and hand-detailing that go into custom made clothing is of exceptional good quality that exceeds by far what is available at ready made.

· Individuality – Your custom tailored clothing will be as individual as your own signature.

· Value – Custom made clothing is truly priceless, a far better value than ready-made and in some cases even lower in price than expensive designer clothing.

FAQ's

FAQ'S

1. What can you do for me that a regular store doesn't offer?
A retail store carries a standard inventory, and that's all they can offer you. Whenever you buy from a retail outlet, you are always buying 'off the rack'. Here at Ehkay Corner Tailors, everything is custom tailored. This is our only business. This is how we can create fully custom made clothing in the exact style and fabric of your choice.

2. Can I schedule an on-site visit with your master tailor in my home or office?
Certainly. If you have ten or more people interested in custom tailored clothing, we will be happy to make the arrangements. Our tailors travel extensively throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States

3. What is your price range?
A custom made Men Suit starts at US$250 to US$1495.00. A custom made Shirt starts at US$29 to US$195. Custom made Men Sports Coats are two-thirds the price of a Men Suit, and a custom made Men Pants run about one-third the price of a suit. Because of the silk facing, Tuxedos are US$75 to US$200 more than a suit. Men Topcoats are about the same price as Men Suits. A custom made Women Suit would cost the same as a Men Suit. A custom made Dress depends very much on the design and cloth used which starts at US$125. A custom made Women Pants will cost the same as a Men Pants.

4. Do I have to get re-measured every time I pick something out?
Not at all. Once we have your measurements on file, re-orders are easy. If you want something new, all you have to do is select the cloth and styles.

5. Where will my clothes be made?
All custom made clothing that we sell are cut and sewn in our factory in Singapore. On completion of your order, all garments are shipped by a reputable courier service directly to you.

6. When I place my order, can I choose different styles? Is it possible to request different styles, collars, cuffs, pockets or other unique features on my clothing?
Yes, we will be happy to custom make clothing according to your preferred requirements. A design from a magazine, your best outfit in your wardrobe or a photo picture is most welcome! As professional tailors, we are able to make to measure any style or design to your preference.

7. Can I use different fabrics?
Of course! You may choose any fabric we offer. We stock well over 10,000 choices of cloth and fabric, all of which come with high thread counts for rich texture and feel. If you are unable to find the exact fabric that you are looking for, simply send us an e-mail with the description, or a photograph from a catalog or magazine. We will try to find the perfect match for you (and we will happily send to you a swatch of the match for your approval!)

8. I'm a bit hesitant to order custom clothing...I worry about the fit.
You may start your first order by sending us your best fitting clothing. The Singapore Tradition

The Singapore Tailors

The Singapore tailors tradition been preserved through a handful of dedicated artisans including Ehkay Corner Tailors, one of Singapore’s most respected custom bespoke tailoring families.

Singapore tailors were apprenticed and schooled in the nuances that define world-class fashion. No excuses were accepted for clothing whose fit was anything short of exceptional. The secrets of accurate measurements and immaculate detailing have been closely guarded and passed down to craftsmen who carry the tradition forward. Men and Women outfitted with the help of Singapore tailors are heirs to an art form that stands alone.

Ehkay Corner Tailors is proud heir to the tradition of Singapore tailors. Clothing are still measured and fitted the way they were many years ago.
